POSEY CO., Ind. (WFIE) – A multi-agency manhunt in southern Posey County ended early Sunday morning with the arrest of an Evansville man accused of breaking into a home, violating a restraining order, and severely assaulting a woman.
Posey County deputies took 31-year-old Seth Lile into custody following an intensive hours-long search that spanned several rural properties.
The incident began shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday when deputies were dispatched to a residence on South Caborn Road for a welfare check. A caller had contacted authorities, expressing deep concern for a woman he believed was involved in a violent situation at the home. According to officials, the woman had managed to alert the caller, urging him to contact the police.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim, who reported that Lile had forced his way into her home. The victim revealed that she held an active restraining order against the suspect. She further alleged that an enraged Lile assaulted her during the encounter, leaving her with serious injuries.
Lile fled the scene before deputies could secure the property, triggering a massive search effort. Black Township Fire and Rescue deployed thermal imaging drones to scan the darkened terrain, while a K-9 unit from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the ground search. Despite these efforts, Lile remained at large for several hours.
The break in the case came just before 5:00 a.m. A local resident contacted dispatchers after spotting an unfamiliar man on his property via a home trail camera near the intersection of Darnell School Road and Ford Road.
Acting on this information, deputies saturated the area. A short time later, a Posey County deputy identified a man matching the suspect’s description walking through a field south of the intersection of Carson School Road and Lower Mount Vernon Road. Deputies converged on the location and successfully took Lile into custody without further incident.
Lile was transported to the Posey County Jail, where he is being held on a series of serious charges, including:
- Burglary (Level 3 felony)
- Robbery (Level 3 felony)
- Domestic battery (Level 6 felony)
- Invasion of privacy (A misdemeanor)
- Criminal mischief (C misdemeanor)
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment for the injuries sustained during the home invasion. Authorities have not released details regarding her current condition, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
“We are grateful for the assistance of the community and our partner agencies in helping us locate the suspect quickly,” the Posey County Sheriff’s Office stated following the arrest.
