NAB 2026: RED to demonstrate Cine-Broadcast Module in live sports environment

RED Digital Cinema will showcase its latest broadcast-focused innovations at the 2026 NAB Show in Las Vegas. Attendees will see demonstrations highlighting new workflows for live production, multi-camera environments, and IP-based broadcast integration, along with the exceptional image quality delivered by RED’s newest cinema cameras, including its latest addition to the Z Cinema line, the RED V-Raptor XE.

“The evolution of RED’s cine-broadcast module is redefining creative flexibility in live production,” said Keiji Oishi, RED Digital Cinema CEO. “Productions are harnessing the visual power of large-format, cinematic storytelling within live content workflows — without sacrificing speed, reliability or standards compliance. It’s a seamless addition to the traditional broadcast ecosystem, offering a suite of advanced IP-based solutions within a single, integrated product. Whether it’s for sports, concerts, or live events, our Cine-Broadcast system is opening new creative possibilities for productions around the world.”

The Cine-Broadcast Module has recently been deployed on events broadcast by CBS Sports and NBC Sports Group, while Fuse Technical Group has integrated RED into its live event infrastructure for concerts.

New enhancements to RED’s Cine-Broadcast workflows, RED Connect and broadcast colour capabilities will be on display at NAB. These latest developments are brought on with new firmware updates (2.2 Beta) which introduce automatic record-triggering based on external tally commands from the video switcher. This allows recording R3D files only for the portion of the event that was directed live, dramatically reducing post-production load and enabling editors to easily relink to the camera raw source.

The update also delivers major advancements to RED Connect, now fully supporting RED’s Broadcast Color Pipeline along with Phantom Track functionality. These enhancements unlock new high-performance live workflows, such as 4K 240P EVS-ready slow motion and even full 8K live production using RED’s broadcast-optimised colour tools.

Booth visitors can also (virtually) step onto the court and see fast-paced, immersive live production in action. RED’s 8K live R3D streaming, powered by RED Connect, will drive a basketball demo of real-time, cinema-quality imagery that transforms live experiences. With Monks showcasing their custom server infrastructure and live VR workflow, the system delivers seamless camera switching, custom UV mapping, composite graphics, and rich multichannel audio, perfect for sports, shared-reality venues, and next-generation immersive experiences on Apple Vision Pro.

“This demo illustrates what live productions can achieve when cinema-quality tools combine with live workflows,” said Jeff Goodman, RED’s vice president of product management. “Immersive experiences like this require the highest quality, and that’s exactly what RED Connect provides: real-time access to the camera’s full, uncompromised dynamic range, frame rates, and resolution, over IP.”

The V‑Raptor XE delivers large‑format, cinema‑grade performance at an accessible $14,995 entry point. Built on RED’s V‑Raptor [X] architecture, the XE introduces a streamlined design that curates the essential features for storytelling with new system‑level efficiencies enhanced by the 2.2 firmware. The result is a compact, accessible camera that brings RED’s signature cinematic fidelity and dynamic range to a wider range of productions.

The XE offers versatile capture options with frame rates up to 60fps in 8K VV, 80 fps in 6K S35, 120 fps in 4K, and 240 fps in 2K and includes gains in boot speed and sensor power performance. With 17 stops of dynamic range and unmatched low‑light capability, RF or Nikon Z mount options, and a compact body just over 4 pounds, the XE provides a powerful, adaptable toolset for productions of any scale.

Attendees can also experience the full potential of RAW imaging at the interactive RED R3D and Nikon ZR’s R3D NE workflow station, diving into the flexibility of RAW footage managed by the high performance and secure Pro Data by iodyne, an industry‑standard storage solution. Explore the benefits of RED’s widely adopted IPP2 colour pipeline from colour management to editing in leading NLEs and applying advanced workflow techniques. This demo highlights how R3D and RAW workflows unlock maximum dynamic range, flexibility, and creative control, giving filmmakers a deeper understanding of the advantages that RAW acquisition brings from capture through final delivery.
