Yash is not holding back on the details of his upcoming epic saga ‘Ramayana‘. The actor, who was attending CinemaCon this past week, has been letting fans in on all the details about his character, ‘Ramyana’s lead antagonist – Ravana. Sharing new insights into his portrayal of the character, he described both the physical and creative challenges of bringing the iconic character to life.
Yash on wearing the Ravana costume
In a video from the actor’s chat with a reporter at the festival, Yash spoke candidly about his elaborate costume. The team put up the elaborate black and gold costume, including the large gold crown, body armour, shoulder pads and arm cuffs on display. Sharing insights about his costume, Yash admitted that while wearing it made him feel ‘powerful’, it was also physically taxing. He shared, “I have never done anything like this before. Wearing these types of costumes and a crown, it was heavy, I must admit. We were very particular about the way it looked and chasing the authentic look led it to finally being very heavy. I had to take it off in between (the shoot). But it was amazing.”The actor added that the costume played a key role in helping him embody the villainous character. He said, “Once you get into costume, you start feeling the character. I always have that thing. When I’m in costume and get in front of the camera, that’s when I really hit the note. With Ravana in that attire, it really felt like I was that person at that time. It gives you that power to go out and perform. It was a very unique experience.”
Yash on tapping into Ravana’s mindset
Discussing his preparation for the role, Yash said he focused on understanding Ravana’s mindset. “I’m thinking what must’ve been going on in his head when he was doing these things. What is the reason behind it? How would he convince himself? So it was a very fascinating process for me, just to understand.”He added that director Nitesh Tiwari helped him explore deeper layers of the character. “We all knew about it, but in this story, this version, there is so much more to Ravana’s character. So you can understand him in a different aspect in this story.”
Yash on Ravana’s ten-head depiction in Ramayana
Speaking about the film’s interpretation of Ravana’s ten heads as depicted in artworks, Yash hinted at a fresh and unconventional approach. “It’s a very interesting interpretation that we have in the movie. I don’t want to reveal it,” he said and went on to add, “When you watch it, that is going to be one of the most exciting parts of the film – how we are showing that he had ten heads is something very interesting.”Elaborating further, the actor said, “I think it is also about his capacity as an individual. He was the best at many things. He was really good at whatever he did, so that’s also a way to tell that he had ten heads. That’s basically the representation of the ten-headed picture that you always see about Ravana.”
‘Ramayana’ release date
While Ravana was teased in the ‘Rama‘ first look video, his full look as the character has been kept under wraps. Rumours are rife that the makers will soon release his first look as part of the film’s promotional schedule. During his many discussions that were shared online, the actor also revealed that his character will not share any scene with Ranbir Kapoor‘s Ram in the first part of the saga that is slated for a Diwali 2026 release. He also teased that while Diwali will be on November 6, team ‘Ramayana’ is planning an end-October release for the film.
