The Environment Agency (EA) has issued flood alerts for the Rivers Caldew and Petteril, Irthing and Esk near Carlisle; the Rivers Wampool and Ellen near Wigton and the Middle River Eden.
Elsewhere in the Eden area, alerts are in place for the Rivers Lowther, Eamont and the Upper River Eden.
Derwentwater, the Upper River Derwent and Stonethwaite Beck are also affected by a flood alert.

Guidance issued by the EA states that high water levels could see flooding to low lying lands around the River Wampool and River Ellen.
The following towns and villages could also be affected by flooding due to high water levels:
- Abbeytown
- Silloth
- Allonby
- Aspatria
- Dearham
Carlisle and many villages to the south of the city are affected by the flood alert for the Rivers Caldew and Petteril.
Guidance relating to the flood alert states that locations most affected will be “low lying lands and roads” near the rivers “from the Lakeland fells to Carlisle.”
The area potentially affected by flooding from the River Caldew and the River Petteril includes:
- Greystoke
- Newton
- Reigny
- Plumpton
- Stockdalewath
- Sebergham
- Denton Holme
Flood alerts are set to be updated at 8 am tomorrow and the band of rain is set to clear to the south by this evening.
