14-year-old among four arrested after break-ins at sheltered homes in Immingham

Homes were targeted in the early hours of Sunday

Four people have been arrested by Humberside Police, including a 14-year-old boy, following a spate of burglaries at a sheltered housing complex in Immingham. Today police issued a statement about the raids at Rose Gardens, on Sunday, when a number of elderly people were disturbed in the early hours.

One couple, aged 84 and 86 years, were asleep when burglars entered. Humberside Police said the first report was at around 3.20am, of teenagers attempting to break into bungalows within the complex before fleeing in a stolen silver Audi.

A spokeswoman said: “Officers were immediately deployed and spotted a vehicle at around 3.35am matching the description on Washdyke Lane. They requested the driver of the vehicle to stop however they failed to do so, resulting a short pursuit.

“The vehicle eventually came to a stop in a nearby field, where the occupants are believed to have fled the scene. Officers searched the area and located two boys, aged 14 and 17, matching the description at a nearby petrol station who were arrested on suspicion of burglary.”

Police officers continued to search the area and a 20-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were also arrested on suspicion of burglary. All four have since been released on conditional bail while enquiries are ongoing.

Investigations are also underway into reports of a separate burglary that was reported at 5.40am on Sunday, on Rose Gardens.

The police spokeswoman said: “It is believed that someone forced entry to an address and stole car keys from inside before using these to take a black Mercedes from outside the property. The vehicle was later located outside a shop nearby, with damage to the front and rear of the vehicle. Enquiries are underway to establish if there is any connection between the two incidents.”

Detectives carried out door-to-door enquiries following the spate of burglaries on Sunday. The housing complex, with around 40 homes, is maintained by Amplius housing association.
