Offering Full Refunds or Postponements on Cancelled Flights

Untravelled Paths, the specialist travel company renowned for crafting extraordinary journeys to the world’s most remarkable destinations, today announces the launch of its Flight Cancellation Protection policy, a direct and meaningful response to the growing uncertainty gripping the aviation industry as a result of the ongoing Middle East conflict and its impact on global fuel supplies.

With jet fuel prices having surged from $74 to $150 per barrel since the outbreak of conflict in the region earlier this year, European airlines are under unprecedented financial pressure. Industry analysts have warned that budget carriers are particularly exposed, and the collapse of UK-based Ascend Airways in late April, along with the demise of US carrier Spirit Airlines on 2nd May, has served as a stark reminder of just how quickly the situation can change. Travellers planning their summer holidays have every right to feel nervous. Untravelled Paths has decided to do something about it.

From 6th May 2026, Untravelled Paths is offering Flight Cancellation Protection on all trips. For a modest additional fee, starting from just £49 per person, customers can book their dream trip safe in the knowledge that if their flight is cancelled as a result of the fuel crisis or associated geopolitical disruption, they will not lose a penny of their trip cost.

The policy offers a full refund or a free postponement to any available date within 24 months for flights cancelled more than 14 days before departure. For cancellations occurring between 48 hours and 14 days before departure, the window in which airlines have generally been giving notice during the current crisis, a free postponement is available. Refunds are processed within 20 working days of receiving valid documentation, and the entire claims process has been designed to be as straightforward as possible.

“We know that travellers are hesitant right now, and understandably so,” said James Chisnall, Founder at Untravelled Paths. “The aviation industry is facing one of its most testing periods in living memory, and the question of whether your flight will actually operate is no longer an abstract concern,  it is something people are genuinely worried about when they reach for their credit card. We wanted to remove that worry entirely. Book with us, add our protection, and whatever happens with your airline, your trip cost is safe.”

The protection fee is scaled to the value of the trip, ensuring customers only ever pay for what they are protecting:

Trips up to £1,000 per person: £49 per person
Trips from £1,001 to £2,500 per person: £89 per person
Trips from £2,501 to £4,000 per person: £129 per person
Trips above £4,001 per person: £175 per person
Untravelled Paths is also urging customers to book flights by credit card and to take out independent travel insurance that includes Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance (SAFI), providing a comprehensive additional layer of protection should their chosen airline encounter serious financial difficulties. With Ryanair’s chief executive having publicly named specific European carriers as being at risk of collapse by the autumn if fuel prices remain at current levels, the importance of travelling with full protection has never been greater.

Cover must be added at the time of booking or within 7 days of the original booking date, and cannot be purchased once a cancellation notice has already been issued by an airline. Full terms and conditions are available at www.untravelledpaths.com.

Whatever the weeks ahead bring for the aviation industry, Untravelled Paths’ message to its customers is clear: the adventure you’ve been dreaming of doesn’t have to wait.
