Forensics Investigate Following Serious Collision in Blyth

A major emergency response was launched in Blyth on Sunday morning after a serious road traffic incident left one person hospitalised.

Emergency services, including the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), descended on Bridge Street at approximately 10:54 am on Sunday, August 30, following reports of a collision.

The incident prompted a significant closure in the centre of the town. Northumbria Police cordoned off all four exits of the roundabout connecting Bridge Street, Ridley Avenue, and both sections of Wellington Street, causing major disruption to local traffic for several hours.

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) confirmed a robust multi-agency response to the scene. A spokesperson for the service stated: “We were called to a road traffic incident on Bridge Street in Blyth at 10:54 on Sunday, 30 August. We dispatched two ambulance crews, one specialist paramedic, one clinical team leader, and were supported by the Great North Air Ambulance Service.”

Following initial assessment and treatment at the scene, the patient was transported by road to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSEC) in Cramlington.

As of 2:30 pm on Sunday, the area remained under police control. At least two vans from the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit were spotted on-site, indicating that investigators were conducting a thorough examination of the scene to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The full extent of the injuries sustained by the individual involved remains unknown at this time. Both Northumbria Police and GNAAS have been contacted for further comment regarding the nature of the incident and the condition of the patient.
