A record-breaking charity walk has raised more than £56,000 to support children living with brain tumours.
More than 100 people took part in the OSCAR’s Nine Edges Challenge in the Peak District, which covered a 23-mile route and raised £56,250 for OSCAR’s, a York-based charity supporting children with brain tumours and their families.
The event, held on Sunday, May 3, marked the largest turnout and highest fundraising total in the history of the challenge, bringing together families, friends, and experienced hikers.
Jack, a 19-year-old student from York who first took part in an OSCAR’s challenge at age 10, said: “This year felt different from the first step.
“Seeing so many people there, and so many kids taking on 23 miles with smiles on their faces, was honestly overwhelming.”
Phil Martinez, charity manager at OSCAR’s, added: “This Nine Edges Challenge has been truly record-breaking — not just in the amount raised, but in the sheer number of people who showed up and pushed themselves to help others.
“We were particularly pleased to welcome so many families that we have helped over the years, a clear sign of how strongly our community supports each other.”
The charity will hold its 10th walking challenge on May 2, 2027.
