On September 2, 2026, the Bharat Tex Trade Federation (BTTF) and Première Vision SA, a premier global platform for creative fashion and textile sourcing, formalized a multi-year institutional partnership. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during the Première Vision exhibition in Paris by Dr. A. Sakthivel, core committee member of BTTF and chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), and Florence Rousson, CEO of the fashion division at Première Vision SA. This strategic collaboration is designed to elevate India’s textile sector by integrating it more deeply into the international fashion ecosystem. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of high-level government officials, including Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, and Dr. M. Beena, Development Commissioner (Handlooms), alongside prominent industry leaders and representatives from the Indian Embassy. The MoU marks a significant milestone following a Letter of Intent signed earlier in July 2026 at the Bharat Tex event in Delhi.
The primary objective of this partnership is to pivot the Indian textile industry away from a reliance on volume-driven exports toward high-value, design-led, and premium market segments. By leveraging Première Vision’s five decades of industry expertise and trend intelligence, Indian manufacturers, exporters, and artisans will gain unprecedented access to global fashion houses and premium sourcing networks. This transition is expected to be further bolstered by the recent India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), concluded in January 2026. With the FTA providing preferential access—covering 96.8 percent of tariff lines—Indian textile exporters are positioned to capitalize on a massive European market, which saw textile and apparel imports valued at approximately $292.8 billion in 2025. By aligning with global standards for sustainability, traceability, and circular production, Indian enterprises are set to enhance their competitiveness and establish themselves as preferred partners for international luxury brands.
Beyond commercial expansion, the collaboration emphasizes the preservation and promotion of global heritage and craftsmanship. A Joint Steering Committee will oversee initiatives such as reciprocal expert delegations, knowledge-sharing sessions, and joint export promotion programs. A highlight of this cultural exchange is the upcoming “A Living Thread” showcase scheduled for January 2027, which will feature a fusion of Indian hand-embroidery and handloom techniques alongside French textile heritage. During the signing, Secretary Neelam Shami Rao emphasized that this partnership aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “5F” vision, aiming to transform the country into a global textile hub that benefits everyone from MSME entrepreneurs to traditional weavers. As both organizations work together to foster innovation and responsible sourcing, the partnership signifies a robust commitment to modernizing the supply chain while celebrating the timeless artistry inherent in India’s diverse textile tradition. This initiative not only strengthens diplomatic and trade ties between the regions but also ensures that the narrative of Indian fashion is framed within the context of global sustainability and premium design excellence.
