Finsbury Park will lead the way in sustainable event production by powering live gigs at the iconic site through a direct underground renewable electricity cable.
Instigated by Haringey Council and partners Festival Republic, work has begun to install the new system beneath the ground surface of Finsbury Park – an annual stage for world-class artists over two decades.
The adoption of mains power will result in an improvement in air quality during our Major Events Schedule in the park over the summer months, with fewer generators and vehicles on site during the ‘build and break’ period as well as the gigs.
This ongoing partnership work with Festival Republic ensures Haringey Council can continue to invest in – and improve – Finsbury Park on a year-to-year basis.
In the coming years, the council hopes to expand the street lighting in the park, with designated call points to help further improve the safety of all local residents and park users – irrespective of whichever route they choose to take through it.
The Leader of Haringey Council, Cllr Peray Ahmet, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Emily Arkell, and the Managing Director of Festival Republic, Melvin Benn, attended a breaking-ground event in Finsbury Park on Monday morning (16 March 2026).

We’re delighted to be working in tandem with our partners at Festival Republic to help improve the local environment in Finsbury Park.
Connecting the festival site to mains power cuts emissions and enables us to deliver the same fantastic music experience in a much more sustainable way. By doing this, we are helping set the standard for large-scale events.
Back in 2023, we entered into a five-year agreement with Festival Republic and one of the main reasons for doing so was to mutually work towards some long-term planning for the staging of our Major Events Schedule in Finsbury Park.
This project is an important milestone and clear evidence we can implement progressive improvements to the park on a year-to-year basis for the benefit of our residents and visitors to the borough.
Carbon savings will be achieved from a major reduction in fuel consumption, with the transportation of the majority of the generators and the fuel to power them to and from the events site down on previous editions, along with the running of those generators during our Major Events Schedule in the park.
