Donald Trump’s health has come under scrutiny in a new book, adding to a list of public symptoms the president has been battling since he returned to office. CNN’s John Berman paused his live coverage to speak to New York Times White House journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan’s about their new book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump.
The news correspondent commented: “I didn’t know the president was having a hard time hearing or that his hearing was fading?” Haberman replied: “Aides are aware that [Trump] is older. What exactly goes on with Donald Trump‘s health is one of the mysteries of the last 10 years.”
She claimed the White House are good at keeping his health woes private. Haberman suggested, “But he is moving differently. He has the swelling in the ankles which he was so irritated by the coverage. He’s very sensitive about his appearance.”
Haberman claimed: “His hearing is an issue. They have all been aware of it. The fact that he is older it’s harder to mask it.”
According to Regime Change, Trump was upset about the press coverage of his “cankles” and demanded that his press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, address it during one of her media briefings.
The book also sheds new light on his bulging ankles, which his doctors have said is the result of chronic venous insufficiency.
Trump, who turned 80 years old earlier this month, has received increasing scrutiny about his physical and mental fitness during his second term.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle told the Daily Beast in a statement, “President Trump’s sharpness, unmatched energy, and historic accessibility stand in stark contrast to what we saw during the last administration when Democrats and the legacy media intentionally covered up Joe Biden’s serious mental and physical decline from the American people.
“President Trump is the sharpest and most accessible President in American history who is working nonstop to solve problems and deliver on his promises.”
It comes as the US president recently got into a heated clash with a journalist, one day after his “awkward” and “strange” G7 speech.
Trump fired back at a reporter on June 18, telling a journalist, “I know what’s going on a hell of a lot better than you do,” live on air while taking questions.
The tense moment, comes a day after his speech at the G7 summit in France was branded “strange” and “rambling in parts”.
