Countryfile presenter’s ‘rule-breaking’ confession prompts guest to step in

Countryfile presenter Anita Rani was left in a bit of a pickle during Sunday’s (July 12) episode of the BBC show

A Countryfile guest was forced to intervene after the presenter admitted to ‘breaking a rule’.

BBC host Anita Rani returned to screens for Sunday’s (July 12) instalment of the popular programme as she visited West Mersea in Essex.

The area has a rich history of oyster harvesting spanning over 2,000 years, with cultivation taking place in the creeks surrounding Mersea Island.

During her visit, Anita ventured onto the brackish waters to meet those working in oyster farming. She encountered a team examining how the non-native Atlantic rock oyster is impacting the local ecosystem, and whether it might assist coastal habitats in adapting to rising sea levels.

The broadcaster was accompanied by Ecologist Tom Cameron from the University of Essex, alongside researchers Lola and Kristina, who have been carrying out experiments on oyster reefs to gather further information.

The group made their way towards Brightlingsea to observe a rock oyster reef. Upon arrival at their destination, Anita was eager to discover more as she began participating in the work, reports the Express.

However, shortly after starting, Anita encountered a significant issue when she realised the tide was advancing and she lacked appropriate footwear.

Slightly alarmed, she enquired: “Someone keeping an eye on the tide, right?” The BBC presenter then confessed: “Doesn’t help that I’ve broken Countryfile Rule 101 and forgotten my wellies.”

As the tide rapidly advanced, she observed: “That came in very quickly.”

The camera captured her footwear – walking boots – as she remarked: “Look at this. The tide is coming in very quickly and now we’re getting deeper.”

When the water level rose too high, a Countryfile contributor intervened, offering to carry Anita on his back towards their vessel.

Glancing at the camera with amusement, Anita laughed as she quipped: “I know. Demanding.”

In another segment of the programme, Anita delved into the Countryfile archives, exploring the individuals and initiatives influencing coastal communities.
