Actor and CM Vijay‘s son Jason Sanjay is all set to come into the spotlight as a filmmaker with his directorial debut ‘Sigma’. While expectations are high for the film, the young director says his passion for cinema did not begin overnight. Growing up in a film family gave him plenty of opportunities to visit shooting locations and watch films from across the world. With time, he grew increasingly interested in storytelling, the structuring of a screenplay, and how ideas were conveyed through film direction. This growing interest ultimately translated into a desire to create his own films.
Jason Sanjay reveals his family’s support
Speaking about his decision to pursue cinema with Cinema Vikatan, Jason Sanjay revealed that his family’s support gave him the confidence to move ahead. “I told my parents, my sister, and my friends that I wanted to enter cinema. Everyone responded positively, and that became a huge source of energy for me. Only then did I realise how much faith they had in me. When ‘Sigma’ began, Vijay Sethupathi sir, Soori sir, and many others wished me well. A lot of people blessed me, and that encouragement meant a lot,” he said. He also recalled his time studying filmmaking in Canada. “While studying filmmaking in Canada, I wrote a 120-page script. I couldn’t make it into a feature then, so I turned it into a 20-minute short film to understand what I could do as a director,” he added.
A script that slowly became ‘Sigma’
Jason explained that the road to his first feature film was built through patience and learning. “After returning to India, I worked on two or three story ideas. I shared the one I liked the most with my friends and people from the industry. I changed the negative points they highlighted and added more positives. Through my uncle Sanjeev, I met producer Tamil Kumaran, sir. I only wanted the experience of narrating a story to a producer, but he loved the script. Later, I met Subaskaran sir, and he also liked it. That is how the story eventually became ‘Sigma,'” he said.
Jason Sanjay focuses on ‘Sigma’
Despite questions about whether he will act in the future, Jason says his immediate goal is to establish himself as a filmmaker. “I didn’t appear in the promo song because I wanted to become an actor. It was simply to introduce the film and its theme. Right now, I have the responsibility of releasing ‘Sigma’ successfully, and that is where my full focus is. After the film releases, I’ll decide whether to act or continue directing. Every director has an actor within them, and I have one too. But everything depends on what happens after ‘Sigma.’ I also have two or three story ideas in my mind, and I’ll start working on them after the film’s release,” he said.
