Breaking News: One man has died and three others injured in “explosion” at industrial unit


Bedfordshire Police has confirmed that one man has died and three others have been injured after a “suspected explosion” at an industrial unit on Brunel Road in Bedford.

In a social media post shared by both parties at 15:50 on Thursday (23 July), emergency services said, “Crews are currently in attendance at an incident in Brunel Road, Bedford.”

All roads surrounding the incident have now been re-opened.

An update at 19:10 confirmed one fatality, while three others have been taken to hospital for treatment.

A statement from Bedfordshire Police read, “Roads have now reopened following an earlier incident at an industrial unit on Brunel Road in Bedford.

“An initial cordon was put in place following reports of a suspected explosion for the safety of the public, which has now also been stood down.

“One man died at the scene and three others have been taken to hospital to recieve medical treatment.

“Officers will remain on site until the investigation is handed over to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in due course.”

Bedfordshire Police have also asked for the respect of the family and friends of everyone involved, and not to speculate.
