As is often the case in FP3, there was no rush for the teams and drivers to head out on track.
The first to do so a few minutes into the session was Franco Colapinto, who crashed at the final corner during FP2. As a precaution, Alpine also changed the gearbox on the Argentine driver’s car. The next to join him was Lance Stroll, who was unable to complete any laps in FP2 after a suspension issue during the first session on Friday.
Twenty minutes into the session, the first red flag of the day was brought out after Sergio Perez’s Cadillac came to a halt. The Mexican was forced to stop in Turn 2 after his brakes caught fire once again.

By the halfway point of the session, the drivers began pushing on the soft tyres. Hamilton initially went fastest with a 1:19.0, narrowly ahead of Norris and Hadjar. However, his teammate soon improved to a 1:18.6, while Antonelli also went quicker than the seven-time world champion. Meanwhile, Russell locked up into Turn 1.
After the second attempts, Norris took the lead with a 1:17.9, setting a lap a tenth faster than Hamilton’s. The defending world champion was the fastest in Sector 2, while the Ferraris worked better in Sector 3.
