Commonwealth Games 2026 Boxing: Sachin Siwach, Jaismine Lamboria Make Semi-finals As India Hit 10-medal Mark

Sachin Siwach (men’s 60kg) and Jaismine Lamboria (women’s 57kg) were among six Indian boxers who punched their way into the semi-finals of their respective divisions at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Wednesday.

Sakshi Chaudhary (women’s 51kg), Arundhati Choudhary (women’s 70kg), Ankush Panghal (men’s 80kg) and Narender Berwal (men’s +90kg) also reached the last four on the day, guaranteeing India at least 10 boxing medals from Glasgow 2026.

Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain (women’s 75kg), Priya Ghanghas (women’s 60kg), Preeti Pawar (women’s 54kg) and Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (men’s 55kg) had already booked their semi-final berths earlier.

Both losing semi-finalists in boxing at the Commonwealth Games earn bronze medals, consequently guaranteeing medals in all the divisions.

In terms of medal count, CWG 2026 is now the country’s most productive boxing campaign at the Commonwealth Games. The previous best was Gold Coast 2018, where Indian boxers had won nine medals.

Indian pugilists had returned with seven medals from Birmingham 2022.

Sakshi Chaudhary got the day underway in the women’s 51kg category, outpointing Northern Ireland’s Caitlin Fryers 5-0. Having dropped down from the 54kg class, the Haryana boxer used her height and reach to good effect to see off a spirited effort from the Irishwoman.

Arundhati Choudhary, meanwhile, had to work harder for her place on the podium, edging New Zealand’s Morgan Henderson 3-1 in the women’s 70kg quarter-finals.

There was little such drama for Sachin Siwach. The former world youth champion and current world No. 5 outclassed Botswana’s Treasure Moremi 5-0 by unanimous decision in the men’s 60kg.

Ankush Panghal was equally emphatic in the men’s 80kg, brushing aside Seychelles’ Jade Micock 5-0.

Narender Berwal survived a scare, though, as the Asian Games bronze medallist edged Samoa’s Michael Seko 3-2 by split decision in a close men’s 90+kg quarter-final bout.

Olympian Jaismine Lamboria capped off the perfect day for Indians in the boxing rings at the Scottish Event Campus, handily beating England’s Elise Glynn 4-1.

Boxing at the Commonwealth Games 2026 will be on a break on Thursday with the semi-finals and finals scheduled for Friday and Saturday, respectively.
