Google rolls out Hindi support for Ask Maps in India, adds live transit and AI features

Google has begun rolling out Hindi language support for Ask Maps in India, allowing users to interact with the feature in Hindi while searching for places, planning routes and getting local insights. Alongside the language update, the tech giant has also introduced Personal Intelligence and live public transport information to make navigation and trip planning more convenient.

Powered by Google’s Gemini model, Ask Maps combines AI with Google Maps to help users get answers to real-world questions. According to Google, the latest updates make it easier to discover places, plan routes and access local insights.

Ask Maps now available in Hindi

Google has started rolling out Hindi language support for Ask Maps in India. The company said users can now ask questions and receive responses in Hindi, making it easier to search for places, plan routes and explore local recommendations.

Personalised recommendations with Personal Intelligence

Google is also expanding Personal Intelligence in Ask Maps, allowing users to connect the feature with Gmail. When enabled, Ask Maps can use information such as upcoming flight or hotel reservations to provide more relevant suggestions without users having to explain their existing plans.

For example, travellers can ask for recommendations on places to visit near their hotel before a scheduled flight, with Ask Maps suggesting nearby attractions and advising when to leave for the airport.

Continue previous conversations

Users who have enabled their history settings will also be able to continue previous conversations with Ask Maps. The feature allows Maps to remember earlier travel plans and recommendations, making it easier to resume planning without starting from scratch.

Google said connecting Ask Maps to Gmail is optional and is turned off by default. Users can choose whether they want to enable the feature.

Real-time information and live public transport updates

Google said Ask Maps will continue to provide real-time information, including traffic conditions, weather updates and how busy shops or restaurants are before users visit them.

The company is also introducing live public transport updates through a new transit widget. Users can check real-time schedules, delays, route updates and connections for buses, metros and trains. For example, someone searching for services at ISBT Kashmere Gate will be able to view live departure times across different modes of transport, with waiting times automatically updated if a service is delayed.

What is Ask Maps?

Ask Maps combines Google’s Gemini AI capabilities with Google Maps to answer natural language questions about places and travel. Users can ask for restaurant recommendations, family-friendly destinations, trip itineraries or local suggestions based on their preferences, making it easier to plan outings and navigate cities.
