Bristol Balloon Fiesta at full capacity as visitors urged to stay away

Visitors to the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta are advised to stay away as the venue has reached full capacity. Car parks have been closed off and shuttle busses cancelled as thousands gather to watch the balloons take flight this evening (Saturday, August 8).

Reporter on the ground Ellie Kendall said: “There are so many people here. I can’t remember the last time it was this busy!”.

A spokesperson for Ashton Court Estate said: “Please do not make your way to Ashton Court Estate if you are not already here, instead enjoy the balloons in the sky.

“We have now stopped Shuttle Buses from the centre too, and all car parks are sold out. We still have a whole day to go tomorrow, please join us then”.

Thousands gathered on the second day of the festival at Ashton Court Estate this afternoon as they waited to hear if more than 100 balloons would still be taking off in the current weather conditions.

A replica Delorean was rolled out to deliver the news just before 6.30pm this evening, as a green smoke canister was released to indicate the balloons would still be ascending.
