Rising Star: Akshay Kumar’s Niece Simar Bhatia to Lead New Rom-Com Opposite Roshan Mathew
Mumbai: The Hindi film industry is set to witness a fresh on-screen pairing as Simar Bhatia, the niece of Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, has officially signed on for her second feature film. Following her debut in Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis, the young actress is slated to headline a new romantic comedy alongside acclaimed Malayalam and Hindi cinema star, Roshan Mathew.
A Fresh Cinematic Dynamic
According to industry reports, the upcoming project is described as an emotionally resonant, character-driven drama infused with quirky, modern sensibilities. The film promises to blend cinematic elegance with a narrative style that highlights the unique chemistry between the two leads, marking a refreshing addition to the current landscape of Indian rom-coms.
The project marks the feature film directorial debut of Adhiraj Bose. Having previously gained experience as an assistant director on projects like Ek Thi Daayan and earning acclaim for his short films—most notably the Naseeruddin Shah-starrer Interior Cafe Night—Bose is expected to bring a sophisticated visual language to the screen.
The film will be produced by Aayush Maheshwari under the banner of BLM Pictures, a production house known for backing diverse projects such as Dhak Dhak, Loop Lapeta, and Yaariyan 2. Cameras are expected to start rolling in November 2026, with the production team targeting a theatrical release in mid-2027.
The Background of the Stars
Simar Bhatia, the daughter of Akshay Kumar’s sister Alka Bhatia, entered the industry with a significant debut in Ikkis. Despite the film’s challenging run at the box office, critics noted her understated performance, marking her as a talent to watch.
Her co-star, Roshan Mathew, has become one of the most versatile actors in contemporary Indian cinema. After establishing a strong foothold in Malayalam hits like C U Soon and Moothon, Mathew transitioned seamlessly into Hindi projects, delivering standout performances in Anurag Kashyap’s Choked, the dark comedy Darlings, and the thriller Ulajh.
Mathew is currently riding a wave of professional momentum; he is also attached to the upcoming Amazon Prime Video web series Job Trafficking, directed by Prashant Nair, which is currently in production and expected to premiere next year.
As the industry prepares for this upcoming collaboration, all eyes are on whether the partnership between the rising newcomer and the seasoned versatile actor will strike a chord with audiences upon its release in 2027.
