‘Batwara 1947’ Box Office Update: Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta Starrer Hits Rs 51 Crore Milestone Amidst Competitive Clash

The period drama Batwara 1947, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, has officially crossed the Rs 51 crore mark at the worldwide box office. Despite facing stiff competition from the release of Awarapan 2, the film—which marks a significant creative reunion between Santoshi and lead actor Sunny Deol—continues to hold its ground as it concludes its ninth day in theaters.

Box Office Performance: A Steady Climb

After an initial surge during its opening weekend, Batwara 1947 experienced a period of stabilization. According to recent data from Sacnilk, the film added Rs 1.15 crore to its domestic tally on its ninth day, playing across 3,247 shows. This brings the total India net collection to Rs 35.50 crore, with the gross domestic collection reaching Rs 42.12 crore.

International markets have provided a crucial boost to the film’s earnings, contributing an additional Rs 0.75 crore on Day 9. This brings the total overseas gross to Rs 9 crore, pushing the global cumulative total to Rs 51.12 crore.

Day-wise India Net Collection:

  • Day 1: Rs 5.75 crore
  • Day 2: Rs 13.50 crore
  • Day 3: Rs 7.25 crore
  • Day 4: Rs 2 crore
  • Day 5: Rs 2.25 crore
  • Day 6: Rs 1.50 crore
  • Day 7: Rs 1.35 crore
  • Day 8: Rs 0.75 crore
  • Day 9: Rs 1.15 crore
  • Total Net: Rs 35.50 crore

A High-Stakes Comeback

Batwara 1947 has garnered significant industry attention for several reasons. Primarily, it marks the fourth collaboration between director Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol, a pairing that has historically delivered iconic cinema. Furthermore, the film serves as the long-awaited Bollywood comeback for Preity Zinta, who returns to the silver screen after an eight-year hiatus.

The ensemble cast features a stellar lineup, including Shabana Azmi, Abhimanyu Singh, Ali Fazal, Karan Deol, and Khushi Hajare. The film, which hit theaters on August 14, 2026, delves into the emotional turmoil of the Partition era.

Addressing recent public discourse regarding his casting choices, director Rajkumar Santoshi dismissed claims that the portrayal of a Muslim character by Sunny Deol impacted the film’s reception. He clarified that the character is not a Pakistani Muslim, but an Indian Muslim forced to navigate the harrowing displacement of 1947.

As the film moves into its second week, trade analysts continue to monitor whether the positive momentum from global audiences will help the Batwara 1947 box office collection sustain its upward trend despite the ongoing clash with Awarapan 2.
