One fire engine attended the scene

Plumes of thick black smoke could be seen rising into the sky over Maghull this evening as firefighters tackled a blaze near a leisure centre. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was called to Hall Lane, close to Meadows Leisure Centre, at 6.05pm on Friday, following reports of a caravan fire.
Fire crews arrived on scene seven minutes later, with one fire engine in attendance. A spokesperson for the fire service said crews found a private compound containing four caravans, with two of them “well alight” when they arrived.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using two hose reel jets, while Merseyside Police also attended the scene. No injuries were reported, the fire service confirmed.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire crews have been called to Hall Lane, near to Meadows Leisure Centre in Maghull this evening. Crews were alerted at 6.05pm and on scene at 6.12pm, with one fire engine in attendance.
“Crews arrived to find a private compound containing four caravans with two caravans well alight.
“Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus are fighting the fire with two hose reel jets. Merseyside Police are in attendance. The incident is ongoing.”
People living nearby reported seeing smoke from across the area, with images showing large plumes of black smoke stretching high into the sky.
One person posting on social media said they heard what sounded like an “explosion” shortly before spotting smoke rising from the scene.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
