Blyth-based company celebrates World Environment Day

The team at Draeger Safety UK, which is headquartered in Blyth, has taken part in a series of initiatives throughout Sustainability Week to culminate in World Environment Day celebrations.

They included a Woodland Trust fundraiser, a sustainable travel week – which follows investment in new charging points across its UK offices – and working with its catering provider to support locally-sourced ingredients in the head office canteen.

The UK team was also involved in an online event hosted by the global sustainability team celebrating the company’s commitment to environmental protection to mark World Environment Day.

Managing director Matthew Bedford, who personally leads the UK’s Corporate Social Responsibility agenda, said: “Dräger’s guiding philosophy is ‘Technology for Life’ and this extends not only to the products we produce, but to the environment and to safeguarding life for future generations.

“We are very proud of our heritage and on-going commitment to sustainability.

“We’re delighted to be supporting the Woodland Trust across all our UK sites as a charity, which not only protects ancient woodlands and forests but also contributes to wider biodiversity in the UK.”

In addition to the Woodland Trust fundraiser, staff have been encouraged to minimise the impact of their commute and business travel by using sustainable and less polluting travel options.

The company is also supporting sustainable meal options – working with its catering supplier, Wilson Vale, in its Blyth facility to highlight the on-going use of locally-sourced ingredients within its menus.
