Manchester United and Manchester City have been represented in the PFA Players’ Player of the Year nominations
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes and Man City pair Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland have all been nominated for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award. Cherki and Haaland finished second in the Premier League but won the FA Cup and League Cup having narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Arsenal.
As for Fernandes and United, Michael Carrick’s side won 12 out of their 17 league games to build the foundations for next season after the interim boss was appointed as permanent manager following Ruben Amorim’s exit in January.
Fernandes enjoyed a stellar campaign, registering 21 league assists, breaking a record previously held jointly by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.

Following last season’s 15th-place finish under Amorim, the 31-year-old rejected the opportunity to join a Saudi Arabian club before playing a pivotal role in helping United secure Champions League football.
“He’s such an influence for us and he’s been the captain and led by example in different ways,” Carrick said of Fernandes.
When initially asked whether he was confident about retaining the Portugal skipper, Carrick went on to say: “I’ve got no reason to think otherwise.
“We’ve loved what he’s done and he loves being here, I think you can see that. He wanted to stay on (the pitch against Brighton), he wants to stay on every single game because he’s enjoying his football, which is fantastic.”
Fernandes also scooped the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award for 2025/26 and was named the Premier League Player of the Season.
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola is leaving City after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title, but still masterminded a domestic cup double. Both Cherki and Haaland played key roles in those trophy wins.
The latter ended the campaign with 38 goals in all competitions, 27 of those strikes in the Premier League.
Guardiola has been full of praise for both players throughout the campaign, but it was Haaland who sent an emotional message following the head coach’s departure.
Taking to social media, the Man City star said: “A coach who never stopped teaching. It sounds crazy to say this, but you made greatness feel normal.
“Even after hat-tricks, wins and trophies, there was always another lesson, another challenge and another level to reach.
“That mentality changed this club forever and changed me too. The honour of a lifetime to work with the best. Thank you for everything, boss.”
