An inspiring celebration of environmental action took place in schools across Lincolnshire as they were recognised for their dedication to sustainability, wildlife, and community engagement.
Building on the success of this long-term initiative, local schools were again invited to submit entries that highlight the passion and creativity of young people committed to protecting and improving the natural world around them.
Support for this initiative comes from FCC Environment, operators of the Lincolnshire Energy from Waste Facility. The entries were narrowed down to the shortlisted schools, Walk4Wildlife in Bardney, Baysgarth School in Barton upon Humber, Bridge House Independent School in Boston, Sir John Nelthorpe School in Brigg, New Waltham Academy in Grimsby, and Birchwood Junior School in Lincoln.

The shortlisted schools were invited to share their projects, demonstrating the innovative ways they are making a difference both within their school environments and the wider community. Each finalist showcased a unique approach to environmental stewardship, from biodiversity projects and wildlife conservation to sustainability initiatives embedded into everyday school life.
This year’s winners, King Edward VI School in Spilsby, impressed judges with their enthusiasm, innovation, and clear commitment to making a lasting environmental impact.
Through a combination of hands-on activities and educational initiatives, students demonstrated a strong understanding of sustainability and the importance of protecting local ecosystems. Their project stood out not only for its practical outcomes, but also for the level of student involvement and ownership throughout.
Judges praised the school for its ability to bring together environmental learning, teamwork, and real-world impact, creating a project that benefits both the school community and the wider environment.
Sally Hood, Education and Administration Manager at FCC Environment, said:
“We are proud to support this initiative that empowers young people to take positive action for the environment. Each year, it is incredibly inspiring to see the enthusiasm and commitment from all the young people involved. The creativity and passion shown across the projects demonstrate just how engaged this generation is in protecting the environment and making a positive difference in their communities.”
