Tom Rhys Harries-starrer ‘Clayface’ trailer out, movie to hit theatres on October 23

‘Meet the new face of Gotham’, DC Studios has released the much-awaited trailer for their new horror thriller, ‘Clayface’, starring Tom Rhys Harries.The film will see him star as the shape-shifting villain Clayface, whose real name is Matt Hagen. He starts out as a struggling actor whose face is disfigured and then undergoes a scientific transformation that turns his body entirely into clayThe reveal comes ahead of this week’s Comic-Con, where the James Watkins-directed picture is expected to show off more of its wares.As per reports, the film on the famed Batman villain, falls between DC Studios’ two Matt Reeves-helmed Batman movies – 2022’s ‘The Batman’ and 2028’s ‘The Batman Part II’, both starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. It comes after the successful launch of the HBO Max series ‘The Penguin’, set in the same universe.

‘Clayface’ official synopsis

The film revolves around “Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self… but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiralling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge,” as per the synopsis.

James Gunn introduces Tom Rhys Harries as ‘Clayface’

The announcement abut Tom Rhys Harries’ casting was made by DC Studios head James Gunn, who shared in a soial media post, “After a long and incredibly exhaustive search, we finally have our DCU Clayface in @tomrhysharries. Both Matt Reeves and I were just blown away by this guy, and can’t wait for you to see this film, directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan.”

Clayface in Batman comics

Clayface first appeared in a 1940 issue of “Detective Comics,” and several people have taken up the moniker to battle Batman across countless comics and several animated shows. He’s appeared in live-action TV on episodes of “Gotham,” “Pennyworth” and “Birds of Prey,” plus animated shows like “Harley Quinn,” “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” “Young Justice,” “Batman: Caped Crusader” and more.

‘Clayface’ cast

The film also stars Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan, as well as Nancy Carroll and Joshua James. James Watkins directs from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, story by Flanagan, based on characters from DC.

‘Clayface’ release date

‘Clayface’ will be released only in theatres in North America on October 23, 2026, and internationally beginning October 21, 2026.
