Editor’s Take: Europe will benefit from this single partner path for integrated spray drying solutions.
Codis, a global CDMO, is acquiring Catalent Pharma Solutions’ Nottingham, UK facility, which will help expand Codis’ spray drying capabilities. Spray drying is one of Codis’ specializations, along with amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs) and advanced particle engineering.
The acquisition strategically complements Codis’ large scale commercial spray drying facility in Haverhill, UK. This facility is currently being expanded, with a new PSD-4 commercial spray dryer scheduled to come online in 2027.
Advantages of Catalent Site
Overall, the Nottingham site adds to 400,000+ square feet of current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) space for Codis. Along with the Haverhill campus, Codis also has cGMP facilities in St. Louis, and Seymour, Ind.
As for the team at Nottingham, Codis says the company is excited to welcome their experience and deep scientific expertise. Focusing on formulation development and clinical supply, they have provided development-scale spray drying and OSD solutions for over two decades.
Codis Aims to be Euro Leader
Codis’ goal is to become Europe’s leading single partner path for integrated spray drying solutions. This covers the journey from development through clinical supply to final oral dose forms.
“This will further establish Codis as a leading European provider of comprehensive spray dry solutions,” Codis CEO Nicolas Fortin said. “The close proximity of our Nottingham and Haverhill sites creates a unique advantage. Codis can now offer access to the best scientific expertise with a strong, integrated manufacturing capability within a single organization … Most small-molecule drug candidates suffer from poor solubility; spray-dried dispersions have become one of the primary approaches to improving bioavailability. Yet one of the greatest development risks remains the transfer from formulation to commercial-scale manufacturing. By bringing formulation development and GMP manufacturing together, we provide the fastest, lowest-risk path to unlocking a molecule’s full potential.”
Neither party disclosed financial terms of the facility acquisition. However, they estimate the transaction to close later in the third quarter of 2026.
