India’s track and para-cyclists, spearheaded by Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam, finished their Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign without a medal at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.
Track cycling competitions at Glasgow 2026 were held from July 30 to August 2 and featured 26 medal events, including eight integrated para-track cycling medal events.
India fielded a six-member men’s track cycling team comprising David Beckham Elkatohchoongo, Jemsh Keithellakram, Dinesh Kumar, Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam, Rojit Singh Yanglem and Harshveer Sekhon.Â
Lisha Das was the lone Indian para-cyclist in the competition.
Ronaldo Singh, who was originally named after Brazilian football great Ronaldinho before it was shortened to Ronaldo, competed in three events at Glasgow 2026.
Ronaldo teamed up with Rojit Singh Yanglem and David Beckham to finish seventh in the men’s team sprint qualification, missing out on the medal races.
Individually, Ronaldo Singh bowed out in the men’s sprint qualification after finishing 24th before placing 20th in the men’s 1000m time trial final to conclude his campaign.
Rojit Singh Yanglem also exited in the men’s sprint qualification after finishing 22nd, while David Beckham Elkatohchoongo – named after the former England captain by his football-loving father – placed 25th. Only the top 16 riders advanced to the knockout rounds.
Dinesh Kumar bowed out in the qualification round of the men’s 40km points race after collecting four points in his heat.
Jemsh Keithellakram finished 21st in the men’s keirin, while Harshveer Sekhon placed ninth in the men’s 4000m individual pursuit and 21st in the elimination race.
Para-cyclist Lisha Das finished sixth in the women’s C4-C5 4000m individual pursuit qualification with a time of 6:58.000. She also competed in the women’s C4-C5 1000m time trial, finishing sixth again in 1:34.410.
Track cycling has featured at every Commonwealth Games since 1934, when the event was known as the British Empire Games. India, however, is yet to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the discipline.
