Construction continues for new restaurants in Loyalsock Township | Local Business News

Loyalsock Township, Pa. — Construction continues for a fast-food chicken wing shop and smoothie cafe in Loyalsock Township.

Contractors continue to work at 1923 East Third Street in the Loyal Plaza to renovate the space for a Wingstop. The space formerly housed a Dollar Tree store.

Next door, contractors are working on constructing a space for a Tropical Smoothie Cafe.

Dave Carson, a building official for Loyalsock Township, confirmed that both businesses had put in for permits that were approved by the township. A single space in the plaza is being divided to accommodate both restaurants.

Both Wingstop and Tropical Smoothie Cafe will be coming soon to the Loyal Plaza in Loyalsock Township. Contractors are currently working to renovate the former Dollar Tree space to accommodate the new businesses.

Carson said a next step is to install a fire sprinkler system. The contractor needs to put in a water supply line first. The plaza owner received approval last week to start work on water lines.

“They still have a lot of finish work to do,” Carson said.

Carson is unsure when either business will open, but speculated it could be a few months yet.

Wingstop first indicted interest in locating in Loyalsock earlier this year when they originally looked at the space of the former Venice Pizza in the smaller plaza building. Permits to build in the former Dollar Tree space were obtained in the spring.

Wingstop sells boneless and bone-in chicken wings as well as chicken tenders and sides, including fries. The menu offers up to 10 different flavors including garlic parmesan, Texas Buffalo, teriyaki, and lemon pepper.

Wingstop started in 1994 in Garland, Texas, as a buffalo-style chicken wing restaurant. Today, the chain has more than 1,700 locations in the U.S., Mexico, Singapore, Indonesia, United Kingdom, France, and United Arab Emirates, according to the website. The closest current locations to north central Pa. are in Scranton and Harrisburg.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe is no stranger to the region, as a location opened in May in Kelly Township near the Lewisburg Walmart store.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe serves made-to-order smoothies, bowls, wraps, sandwiches, and flatbreads. Founded in 1997, the casual restaurant chain has grown to more than 1,400 U.S. locations that offer healthier food choices. The menu features more than 30 smoothie options. The franchise uses responsibly sourced, safe, and quality ingredients, according to the website.
