Engineering Marvel: Whitby Morrison Unveils World’s Longest, Most Advanced Ice Cream Van

CREWE, UK – Renowned British manufacturer Whitby Morrison has officially unveiled what is believed to be the world’s longest and highest-specification ice cream van, marking a significant milestone in the company’s storied history of specialist automotive engineering.

Built as a bespoke project for Dublin-based operator Mark Falconer, the vehicle is designed to redefine mobile catering performance. Constructed on a robust Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 519 chassis cab and finished with Whitby Morrison’s signature Mondial bodywork, the van’s elongated frame serves a strictly commercial purpose: to dominate at high-footfall environments such as major festivals and large-scale sporting events.

Efficiency Meets Capacity

While the vehicle’s sheer scale is bound to command attention, the engineering focus remains firmly on productivity. The van is designed to serve more than 15,000 portions of ice cream on a single charge of its emission-free, onboard power system. This innovation makes the vehicle an ideal solution for city-center operations and modern venues that are increasingly enforcing strict noise and environmental regulations.

To manage high-volume demand, the van features an unprecedented interior configuration, including:

  • Two Carpigiani Aria soft ice cream machines
  • Two Carpigiani Aria Smart slush machines
  • Dual serving areas and four individual points of sale

By incorporating multiple service windows, operators can manage large queues simultaneously, effectively reducing customer wait times and maximizing revenue during peak trading hours.

A Showcase of British Innovation

Ed Whitby, representing the Crewe-based manufacturer, noted that while every van leaving their facility is unique, this particular project represents a new pinnacle for the team.

“This is believed to be the world’s longest and highest-specification ice cream van, and it is certainly one of the most ambitious projects we have ever undertaken,” said Whitby. “It is a real showcase of what our engineering team can achieve when innovation is combined with a customer’s vision. Every design decision—from the layout of the operator workspace to the high-capacity equipment—has been made with performance in mind.”

Sixty Years of Craftsmanship

For over six decades, Whitby Morrison has built a global reputation by blending traditional coachbuilding craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. This latest delivery highlights the company’s ability to move beyond standard models, creating custom-built solutions tailored to the unique operational challenges of their clients.

As the demand for high-performance mobile catering grows, this Whitby Morrison project stands as a testament to the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the industry, proving that even a classic concept like the ice cream van can be transformed through modern engineering into a high-tech powerhouse.
