Arun Matheswaran’s ‘DC’ Roars at Box Office, Surpassing ₹30 Crore Worldwide in Opening Weekend
Arun Matheswaran’s much-anticipated film, ‘DC’, has made a significant impact at the box office, demonstrating robust growth throughout its opening weekend. The Tamil venture, which features acclaimed filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj in a leading role alongside Wamiqa Gabbi, recorded an impressive 36.4% surge in its India net collection on Sunday, its third day in cinemas.
According to figures released by Sacnilk, ‘DC’ garnered an impressive ₹9.55 Crore net in India on Sunday alone, a substantial jump from the ₹7.00 Crore collected on Saturday. This strong Sunday performance was fueled by 4,639 shows across the nation, achieving an overall occupancy rate of 40.1%.
India Collection Reaches ₹20.95 Crore
With the weekend figures now tallied, ‘DC’ has amassed a cumulative net collection of ₹20.95 Crore in India. The film’s India gross collection currently stands at a commendable ₹24.11 Crore.
The film’s theatrical journey commenced on Friday with an opening day collection of ₹4.40 Crore. It then witnessed a healthy increase on Saturday, reaching ₹7.00 Crore. The significant jump on Sunday propelled the three-day India net total to its current standing of ₹20.95 Crore, indicating strong audience reception and positive word-of-mouth.
Occupancy rates also showed a consistent upward trend throughout the weekend. Starting at 24.8% on Friday, it climbed to 35.7% on Saturday, and peaked at 40.1% on Sunday, underscoring growing viewer interest.
Breaking down the performance by language, the Tamil version of ‘DC’ was a major contributor, collecting ₹6.60 Crore with an outstanding overall occupancy of 58% across 2,101 shows. The Telugu version also performed strongly, registering ₹2.30 Crore at 39% occupancy from 1,207 shows. The Hindi version added ₹65 lakhs, operating from 1,331 shows with an overall occupancy of 13%.
Detailed occupancy data for the Tamil version highlighted peak performance during afternoon shows, recording an impressive 80.38%. Morning shows had 50.54% occupancy, while evening and night shows registered 65.92% and 68.54% respectively. The Telugu version maintained an overall occupancy of 44.50%, with its morning shows at 28.60%, afternoon at 42.80%, and both evening and night shows at 49.90%.
State-wise gross collections for Day 3 show Tamil Nadu leading with ₹3.30 Crore, followed by Kerala with ₹2.50 Crore. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana collectively contributed ₹2.75 Crore, while Karnataka added ₹1.60 Crore. The remaining regions in India brought in ₹85 lakhs.
Globally, ‘DC’ has also made its mark, collecting an additional ₹2.25 Crore from overseas markets on Day 3. This brings its cumulative overseas gross collection to ₹7.75 Crore. Combining its strong India and international earnings, ‘DC’ has achieved a worldwide gross of ₹31.86 Crore in its opening weekend.
Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Acting Debut Draws Attention
A significant highlight of ‘DC’ has been the acting debut of filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj in a lead role as Devadas. His performance has been widely acknowledged as one of the film’s strong positive aspects. Wamiqa Gabbi portrays the character of Chandra, with Sanjana Krishnamoorthy playing Parvathy.
The robust performance on Sunday, marking the film’s strongest single-day India net collection to date, clearly indicates a healthy and promising trajectory for ‘DC’ as it moves into its first week of theatrical release.
