Delhi Investor Murdered in Elaborate Robbery Plot Orchestrated by Niece

NEW DELHI: A chilling conspiracy has come to light in the national capital following the death of a 60-year-old stock market investor in Northwest Delhi’s Rohini. Police have apprehended three individuals, including the victim’s own niece, in connection with the fatal robbery.

The victim, identified as Rakesh Khanna, was discovered unconscious in his residence in Rohini Sector 3 on Tuesday evening. His home had been ransacked, and despite being rushed to Jaipur Golden Hospital, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

A Calculated Betrayal

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Shashank Jaiswal, the investigation revealed that the primary motive was greed. The victim had recently sold a property for Rs 75 lakh, a fact that reached the ears of his niece, Simran Taneja.

Taneja, a resident of Burari, allegedly conspired with her friend Himanshu, a local gym owner, to rob the victim. The group reportedly conducted a dry run of the robbery on August 30, though their initial attempt failed. They returned on Tuesday to execute the plan.

The Execution

Police details indicate that the niece played a central role in providing the perpetrators access to the home. Taneja allegedly took her own mother and the victim’s wife to a fair in Paschim Vihar, ensuring that Khanna was left alone at the property. Once the house was vulnerable, Taneja arrived by autorickshaw and gained entry, allowing her accomplices to storm the premises.

The attackers—wearing helmets, caps, and masks—overpowered the elderly man and pressed his mouth shut to silence him. The struggle left the victim unconscious, leading to his death.

Arrests and Ongoing Manhunt

Following a 8:14 pm distress call to the police, investigators quickly zeroed in on Taneja. In addition to the niece, police apprehended two associates: 22-year-old Chirag, a gym trainer, and 19-year-old Paras, a class 12 student. While authorities have successfully recovered approximately Rs 72,400 in cash and stolen gold jewelry, the alleged mastermind, Himanshu, remains at large.

The South Rohini Police Station has registered a case against the suspects under sections 103(1) (murder), 309(4) (robbery), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
