Dhanush Set to Collaborate with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Mythological Jungle Drama: Insights Revealed

Reports indicate that Dhanush is set to lead Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s next Hindi film, a large-scale mythological drama primarily set in a jungle. The film, directed by Tamil filmmaker PS Mithran, is expected to commence shooting in early 2027, following the completion of planning and alignment of schedules for all involved. According to sources, Bhansali has chosen a jungle backdrop for this mythological narrative and has finalized Dhanush as the main lead. The script reportedly underwent several rewrites before receiving approval a few months ago. Initially, Ram Charan was considered for the role, but discussions did not progress, leading to Dhanush ultimately joining the project.

The mythological jungle drama will mark the Hindi directorial debut of PS Mithran, who is recognized in Tamil cinema for his work on films such as Irumbu Thirai, Hero, and Sardar. This collaboration also represents the first time Dhanush and Mithran will work together on a film, adding a new dynamic to both their careers.

Dhanush’s involvement in this mythological jungle drama adds another significant Hindi film to his portfolio, which already includes notable collaborations with director Aanand L Rai. His previous Hindi films with Rai include Raanjhanaa, Atrangi Re, and Tere Ishk Mein, each contributing to his growing recognition in the Hindi film industry. Raanjhanaa, in particular, established Dhanush as a household name across India, even before the term “pan-India star” gained popularity.

The upcoming project is anticipated to be one of Dhanush’s most significant Hindi ventures, presenting him in a completely fresh on-screen persona. Filming is likely to begin in early 2027, after Dhanush completes his commitments to South Indian projects, including D55, Mari Selvaraj’s next film, and Vada Chennai 2.

On the other hand, Bhansali is currently engaged in the production of Love and War, featuring Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, and Vicky Kaushal, while also planning the mythological jungle drama with Dhanush. Love and War, initially expected to release in 2026, has been postponed to 2027 due to production delays. Industry observers describe it as Bhansali’s largest film to date. Additionally, Bhansali’s banner is backing Jai Somnath, directed by Ketan Mehta, which is based on the historical attack on Gujarat’s Somnath Temple and is scheduled for a worldwide release in 2027.
