The recent 17th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2026 celebrated excellence in Indian cinema, with a significant highlight being Dulquer Salmaan securing the coveted Best Actor award. His compelling portrayal in the film ‘Kaantha’ resonated strongly with the jury, earning him this prestigious recognition. He triumphed over a formidable list of nominees, including industry stalwarts like Aamir Khan for ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, Mammootty for ‘Kalamkaval: The Venom Beneath’, Ranveer Singh for ‘Dhurandhar’, Rishab Shetty for ‘Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1’, and Sanjay Mishra for ‘Vadh 2’, alongside emerging talents such as Ahaan Panday for ‘Saiyaara’ and Bhuman Bhargav Das for ‘Not a Hero’.

Beyond individual performances, the festival lauded cinematic achievements on a broader scale. The Best Film award was bestowed upon ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’, which emerged as one of the most celebrated features at this year’s event. Independent cinema also received its due recognition, with Rima Das’s ‘Not a Hero’ being named Best Indie Film. Furthermore, ‘The Great Shamshuddin Family’ garnered a Special Mention for Best Film, acknowledging its unique contribution to storytelling, and ‘Kikkran De Phull (Flowers of Acacia)’ also received a Special Mention in the Indie Film category, highlighting the vibrant landscape of diverse narratives.

One of the prominent figures to receive multiple accolades was Rishab Shetty. He was honored with the Best Director award for his masterful work on ‘Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1’, showcasing his exceptional vision and directorial prowess. In addition to this, Shetty also received the Leadership in Film award, underscoring his significant impact and influence within the industry. His dual recognition solidified his position as one of the most prominent and celebrated winners at IFFM 2026. Other notable personalities recognized at the event included Rekha, Kirti Kulhari, Vijay Varma, and Rasika Dugal, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the world of cinema.

This recent IFFM victory comes at an interesting juncture for Dulquer Salmaan, as he gears up for another significant release. The actor is set to make his much-anticipated return to Malayalam cinema with ‘I’m Game’. This project has been generating considerable buzz and anticipation, touted as Dulquer Salmaan’s next major Mollywood venture. However, fans will need to exercise a bit more patience, as the theatrical release date for ‘I’m Game’ has been rescheduled. Initially slated to hit cinemas on August 20, 2026, the makers have now announced a postponement.

The revised worldwide release date for ‘I’m Game’ is now September 3, 2026. The production team officially communicated this change, providing clarity on both the delay and their expanded distribution plans for the film. Their official statement read, “The game gets bigger. The release gets wider. We understand the anticipation and we apologize for the delay, but #IMGAME will now release worldwide on 3rd September, moving from its earlier release date of 20th August.” This announcement suggests a strategic decision to ensure a wider reach and perhaps an even more impactful launch for the film. In addition to ‘I’m Game’, audiences can also look forward to seeing Dulquer Salmaan in the upcoming film ‘Sri Sri’, which will feature Pooja Hegde as his co-star, further adding to his exciting roster of future projects in the entertainment industry.
