Durham Sign India Batter Mayank Agarwal for County Championship Promotion Push

Durham have announced a major boost to their promotion ambitions, confirming that India international Mayank Agarwal has joined the club for the final four matches of the County Championship season.

The 35-year-old batter arrives at Chester-le-Street with a wealth of experience, having represented his country in 21 Test matches and five One-Day Internationals. Agarwal, who previously enjoyed a short stint with Yorkshire during the 2022 season, brings a formidable first-class pedigree to the north-east, boasting a career average of 43.98.

Agarwal is set to replace South African batter David Bedingham, who is departing the club to return home for preparations ahead of South Africa’s upcoming Test series against Australia.

The acquisition is timely as Durham look to cement their position at the top of the Division Two table. With only four rounds of fixtures remaining, the club currently holds a 40-point lead over their closest challengers, Kent and Northamptonshire. Durham’s final push for promotion begins this Wednesday at 10:30 BST, when they face Northamptonshire away from home.

Speaking on the addition of the experienced Indian international, Durham head coach Ryan Campbell expressed his optimism regarding the impact Agarwal will have on the squad.
