Ben Duckett’s century and Sam Curran’s late burst of wickets inspired England to a series-clinching 27-run win over India in the third ODI at Lord’s.
Duckett struck a magnificent 141 from 135 balls, the highest individual ODI score at Lord’s and his fourth century in the format, before a swashbuckling 41 from just 13 balls by Jos Buttler helped England post a daunting 387, setting India 388 to win.
Rohit Sharma led the chase with a superb 138 off 110 deliveries, registering his 34th ODI hundred and sharing century partnerships with Shubman Gill (77) and Virat Kohli (74) to keep India firmly on course.
India were 303-2 and needed 84 from the final 39 balls when a decisive seven-ball spell saw Curran (4-75) dismiss Ishan Kishan (14), Shreyas Iyer (0) and Kohli, halting India’s momentum as their chase fell 27 runs short.
After losing the series opener by six wickets at Edgbaston, England bounced back to secure a 2-1 ODI series victory over the world’s top-ranked side, adding it to their 4-0 T20 series whitewash of India.

India were made to toil in the field as England recorded a record 192-run first-wicket stand before Bethell picked out Rohit Sharma at cow corner to fall nine runs short of an emotional century on the day Lord’s remembered Sir Garfield Sobers.

Duckett kicked on after reaching his century, blasting 18 fours and a six to surpass Sir Viv Richards’ 138 not out against England in 1979 and register a new highest individual score in a Lord’s ODI before falling caught and bowled to Prince Yadav.
Joe Root hit a sixth successive ODI half-century after Duckett’s dismissal before Jos Buttler’s four fours and three sixes in a blistering late cameo saw England plunder 82 runs from the final five overs to finish on 387-3 after 50 overs of domination with the bat.
It left India needing to pull off the second-highest run chase in ODI history to win the series, but confidence grew that it could be possible when Rohit and Gill put on a 147-run opening stand.

Gill suffered a recurrence of the cramp that forced him to retire in the first ODI at Edgbaston, and four overs after receiving treatment the India captain was trapped lbw as Adil Rashid claimed a crucial breakthrough with his first wicket of the series.
Rohit sealed his eighth ODI century on English soil from 84 balls in a 113-run stand with Kohli, as the two legendary Indian batsmen sought a thrilling final chapter in what may prove to be their final international appearances in England.

Bethell (1-49) bowled Rohit, delivering the crucial breakthrough to reduce India to 260-2, but Kohli’s first fifty at Lord’s in any format kept the tourists on track.
But Curran’s late brilliance derailed the India chase as they were restricted to 360-7 from 50 overs, with England claiming a fifth win from six matches and only their second ODI series victory over India since 2012.

Gill rues England’s late-innings runs
India captain Shubman Gill:
“I think we were right in the game up until the 45th over [of England’s innings]. We gave up too many runs in the last three overs and that’s where the game went too far out from us.
“We thought if we had wickets in hand after 40 overs, we would be in the game. After the powerplay, we tried to get the required run rate down.”
