Everton transfer stance on Ethan Wheatley deal after Alistair Johnston talks confirmed

Ethan Wheatley has progressed through Manchester United’s youth system and was part of the team that won the English Youth League

Everton hold an interest in young Manchester United forward Ethan Wheatley. The ECHO understands the club is weighing up a move for the 20-year-old, an England youth international.

Proposals are not yet at an advanced stage for a move that would be intended, initially, to bolster the Blues’ academy, however. Wheatley, from Stockport, has progressed through Manchester United’s youth system and was part of the team that won the English Youth League at Under-18s level.

He has had spells on loan within the Football League, at Walsall, Northampton and Bradford City. Everton have already moved to procure talent to help the set-up at Finch Farm, with 16-year-old forward Kai Hutchison signed from Dundee United this summer, continuing a trend of recent years.

That approach saw Braiden Graham signed from Linfield two years ago and the Northern Ireland youth star, who received his first senior international call up in the summer, has since been involved in all four of the club’s summer friendlies, including the first of the double-header in Germany, against Hamburg.

Everton, meanwhile, continue to explore the market for a new right back. On Friday, Celtic manager Martin O’Neill confirmed David Moyes had spoken with him about Alistair Johnston, one of several options being considered by Everton.
