Fairways to Futures: Playskill Golf Day Shatters Records with £25,000 Charity Haul

The sun-drenched fairways of The Grove in Hertfordshire played host to a record-breaking event last week as the annual Playskill Golf Day smashed fundraising targets, securing more than £25,000 for children with physical disabilities.

The sold-out event, which stands as the charity’s largest and most successful to date, brought together nearly 90 golfers, local sponsors, and a roster of high-profile guests to support the Hemel Hempstead-based organization. Playskill provides specialist, play-based therapy and essential support services for children living with physical disabilities across the county.

Among the notable figures in attendance were the Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Robert Voss CBE, who serves as a Patron of the charity. He was joined on the course by sporting royalty, including legendary football manager Harry Redknapp and former Watford icon Luther Blissett. The trio led a field of over 20 teams competing throughout the day.

A highlight of the tournament was the “Beat the Pro” challenge, which featured PGA professional Chris Foster. As the first amputee to qualify as a PGA professional, Foster’s participation served as a poignant reminder of the charity’s core message: that individuals with disabilities can achieve greatness and know no boundaries.

Niki Michael, Chief Executive of Playskill, expressed her profound gratitude to the community for their overwhelming support. “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported this year’s Golf Day,” she said. “To raise more than £25,000 is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the generosity of our sponsors, players, and prize donors. These funds will make a real difference, helping us continue to provide life-changing support for local children with physical disabilities and the families who rely on our services.”

The proceeds are earmarked for the expansion of Playskill’s vital operations, including their specialist therapy sessions, home support, and family training workshops. These services are credited with developing crucial communication, movement, and life skills in children while fostering resilience and confidence within their families.

The charity extended special thanks to its headline sponsor, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, along with the numerous local businesses and individuals who contributed through prizes and sponsorship.

Following the massive success of this year’s outing, organizers have already confirmed that the Playskill Golf Day will return to The Grove on October 13, 2027. Those looking to support the charity’s ongoing mission or register their interest in next year’s event can find further information by visiting the charity’s website at playskil.org.
