Tragedy at Khavda Hill: Family of Three Dies in Heartbreaking Incident in Maharashtra

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR, MAHARASHTRA — A day that began with an urgent attempt to save a life ended in unimaginable tragedy this Friday at Khavda Hill, where an entire family lost their lives in a sequence of events that left witnesses and local authorities in shock.

The incident began around 10:00 a.m. when an 18-year-old resident of the Devlai area arrived at the popular hill site and positioned himself near the treacherous edge, threatening to jump. For the next three hours, the scene transformed into a desperate standoff between the teenager and those who cared for him most.

According to eyewitness accounts, local villagers, onlookers, and the teen’s own mother spent hours pleading with the young man. They implored him to reconsider, urging him to think of his future and the anguish his actions would cause his family. Despite their persistent entreaties and the visible distress of his mother, the young man remained steadfast, refusing to move to safety.

During the final 20 minutes of the ordeal, the teenager’s father, who had been watching from below, climbed the hill in a last-ditch effort to intervene. As the youth continued to move perilously close to the ledge, the father attempted to reach out and pull his son back. In a heartbreaking turn of events, the two lost their balance, causing both to fall from the cliff.

The horror of the situation reached its peak moments later when, overcome by panic and grief, the boy’s mother also fell from the hill. All three family members succumbed to their injuries at the site.

Eyewitness Sanjay Jadhav, who observed the distressing standoff, described the desperate efforts of the parents to de-escalate the situation.

"The parents and others tried very hard to make him understand, but he didn’t listen and kept standing on the edge of the hill," Jadhav told reporters. "The mother kept pleading with him not to jump."
