Fox News halted for breaking Donald Trump announcement | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Fox News ground to a halt today (Friday, April 17) as Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced the Strait of Hormuz had officially reopened in the wake of the US naval blockade. “We are just getting this in, so bear with us,” the American news programme’s presenter said before adding: “The Strait of Hormuz is on the screen for a reason.” As the breaking news banner flashed for viewers while a map of the Strait of Hormuz was aired, he added: “The Iranian Foreign Minister, who seems to be the guy in charge, at least publicly for Iran, just fired this off in a post on X and I am going to read it for you now.” The post from the Iranian Minister read: “In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire.”

Continuing with the report, the Fox News host said: “So on that news, the stock market is flying through the roof. That opens in 28 minutes, so we will watch that.

“Now, while this is happening, the US has brokered a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. Apparently, that was one of the conditions which Iran wanted.

“So the President is saying he may host both countries at the White House in hopes of striking a last-minute truce. There’s a lot to go through.”

President Donald Trump confirmed in a social media post that the Strait was “completely open and ready for business and full passage”.

In another post, the US leader said: “It will no longer be used as a weapon against the World!”

The US-Israel conflict has killed more than 3,000 people since it started on February 28.
