New Delhi, June 21: The Hindi Granth Akademies and the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, which were entrusted with the task of bringing out textbooks in Hindi on various subjects has found themselves in the unenviable position of having to find the buyers for these books.
To facilitate switch-over to Hindi as the medium of instruction the Hindi Granth Akademies were established in Hindi areas to take up production of textbooks. The Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology was also associated in this massive programme and 1008 textbooks have so far been brought out. But it was found that only 200 of them have so far been prescribed or recommended by the universities in the Hindi States.
The strange part of this is that these books have been written by reputed teachers of these universities who are already connected with the boards of studies in the State Government. Moreover, these books have been recommended by the subject-panels of professors and heads of department of the five Hindi-speaking States and the Central Government had thought that the universities, whose teachers had written the books, would prescribe them for their approved courses at the undergraduate level and in this way the entire programme of switch over to Hindi medium of instruction in these States would be made successful.
