GATE 2027 Notification Released: IIT Madras Introduces Robotics & Automation Paper; Applications Now Open
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has officially kickstarted the process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. Following the release of the official notification on July 20, 2026, the application portal is now live, marking the beginning of the journey for thousands of students aspiring to pursue higher education or secure prestigious roles in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
What’s New in GATE 2027?
In a significant update to the examination structure, IIT Madras has introduced a new test paper: Robotics & Automation (RA). This addition reflects the evolving landscape of technology and the growing demand for specialized skills in the automation sector. Furthermore, the institute has revised the syllabus for several existing papers to better align with current industry and academic standards.
The examination will continue to be a Computer-Based Test (CBT), covering 30 diverse subjects across Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, and Arts.

Eligibility and Application Process
GATE 2027 is open to candidates currently in the third year or higher of any undergraduate degree program, as well as those who have already completed their degrees in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, or Arts. Notably, there is no age limit for applicants.
Application Fees:
- SC/ST/PwD candidates and Female candidates: Rs 1,000
- All other candidates: Rs 2,000
How to Apply:
- Visit the official GATE 2027 portal.
- Register using a valid email address and mobile number to receive your unique Enrolment ID.
- Log in to the GOAPS portal to fill in personal and academic details.
- Upload the necessary documents, including a photograph and signature.
- Complete the payment via UPI, Net Banking, or credit/debit cards.
- Submit the form and download a PDF copy for your personal records.
