GB News halted their live coverage as host Bev Turner addressed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s visit Down Under. In a breaking news announcement they discussed Prince Harry opening up about therapy on the second day of his Australian visit. He spoke about his own experiences of becoming a dad and fathers trying to “upgrade” the parenting they had experienced as a child. Meghan Markle and Harry landed in Melbourne on April 14, for their visit to Australia in more than seven years. They were greeted by crowds when they arrived at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
Royal commentator Lee Cohen believes the Australia tour is a “bad look” for Prince Harry and Meghan and suggested “Australian’s didn’t ask for the Sussex circus”.
He claimed the “former royal couple” are now “B-grade reality stars” in a brutal takedown. Speaking on GB News, Cohen claimed the tour exemplifies the “lowest form of self-promotion” after visiting a hospital for sick children and a women’s refuge.
Bev remarked: “That is a damning assessment of the situation but it is hard to pick any holes in what you’ve just said. The only thing I would say, just trying to be a bit more compassionate at this point, but they could have gone out there and just pursued business plans.
“They could have done these retreats that she’s charging tickets for. They could have sold tickets to theatre. Maybe we should give them a little bit of credit for wanting to raise awareness for some social issues?”
Cohen replied: “The Australian press are asking, ‘Why are they here?’
“The pair represent no government or institution. They only represent themselves. They seem to continue to exploit the goodwill of Harry’s birthright, which quite frankly, is the only thing that makes them compelling at all for the cameras.”
He continued: “They are happy to let the Australian taxpayers’ foot some of the security bill for the privilege of spreading whatever message they’re spreading.
“I think these quasi-royal tours are tone deaf and a bad look for them.”
Viewers reacted to Cohen’s comments, as one person argued: “So how do you explain how happy everyone is to see them?”
Another echoed: “The people and children didn’t need to show up to see the Royals, they could have stayed away. Everyone still has free will, and the result [photo of crowds greeting Harry and Meghan].”
On Wednesday, the Duke visited the capital, Canberra, where he took part in a traditional smoking ceremony at the Australian War Memorial.
It is understood Meghan is exploring the Australian expansion of her As Ever lifestyle brand during the trip.
