Government Expands AI Partner Network to Accelerate Digital India Initiatives

NEW DELHI: In a strategic move to bolster the nation’s digital infrastructure, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has officially reopened the empanelment process for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) vendors. The initiative, managed by the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), aims to broaden the pool of technology partners capable of delivering sophisticated AI solutions across various government programmes.

Scaling Up Digital Capabilities

The NeGD, a key agency under the Digital India mission, is seeking to onboard additional agencies to support its existing framework for AI/ML manpower augmentation and project execution. This expansion follows a successful initial round of empanelment, which saw six industry leaders—Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), NEC India, Kyndryl, CoRover, Innefu Labs, and Cactus Technology Solutions—selected to spearhead the government’s foray into advanced AI implementation.

By increasing the number of empaneled vendors, the government aims to ensure it has the technical bandwidth to meet the growing demand for AI-driven services across various central and state departments.

Streamlined Procurement

According to the tender documents released by the NeGD on August 10, the new applicants will be required to adhere to the existing rate card established during the previous empanelment cycle. This requirement suggests that the current exercise is focused primarily on scaling the vendor base to improve service availability and competitive delivery, rather than renegotiating pricing structures.

The government’s decision to tap into external expertise reflects the increasing integration of AI into public service delivery, ranging from predictive governance tools to automated citizen-centric interfaces.

Key Timelines

The Ministry has set a firm timeline for this expansion, with the Request for Empanelment (RFE) process currently underway. Interested organizations have until September 7 to submit their bids. Following the submission deadline, the evaluation process is scheduled to commence on September 8.

As the Digital India programme continues to evolve, this move marks a significant step toward creating a robust, scalable, and versatile technological ecosystem that can support the nation’s ambitious goal of becoming a global leader in AI-led governance.
