In a significant move to elevate the country’s standing in the international fashion landscape, the Bharat Tex Trade Federation (BTTF) and Première Vision SA officially signed a multi-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 2, 2026. The signing ceremony, held during the prestigious Première Vision exhibition in Paris, signals a strategic pivot for India as it transitions from a volume-driven exporter to a premium, design-led global hub. The agreement was formalized by Dr. A. Sakthivel, core committee member of BTTF and chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), and Florence Rousson, CEO of the fashion division at Première Vision SA. This institutional partnership serves as a follow-up to the Letter of Intent signed earlier in July at Bharat Tex 2026, held in Delhi, marking a definitive step toward long-term cooperation in trade, sustainability, and creative craftsmanship.
The collaboration is designed to bridge the gap between Indian manufacturers and the sophisticated demands of the European fashion sector. By leveraging Première Vision’s extensive expertise in trend intelligence and its global network of luxury buyers, Indian textile firms will gain access to premium sourcing channels previously difficult to penetrate. A critical component of this initiative is the emphasis on sustainable production, traceability, and circularity, which are increasingly becoming prerequisites for the global fashion industry. Furthermore, the partnership aims to highlight India’s rich heritage and craftsmanship, specifically through the “Eternal Crafts Collaboration.” This project is set to culminate in an exhibition titled “A Living Thread” in January 2027, which will showcase the synergy between Indian handloom techniques and French textile heritage, effectively positioning Indian artisans within the global luxury market.
This institutional alignment arrives at a propitious time, following the successful conclusion of negotiations for the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) earlier in 2026. The FTA, which offers preferential market access across nearly all textile tariff lines, serves as a powerful economic catalyst for the sector. With the EU’s textile and apparel import market valued at nearly $292.8 billion, the zero-duty access provided by the trade agreement significantly enhances the competitiveness of Indian exports. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, emphasized that this partnership aligns perfectly with the “5F Vision” championed by the government, which focuses on Farm, Fibre, Fabric, Fashion, and Foreign trade. By fostering stronger linkages, the BTTF and Première Vision collaboration is expected to provide substantial support to MSMEs, weavers, and women entrepreneurs across India, allowing them to integrate into global value chains that prioritize high-quality, responsible sourcing.
Under the governance of a newly established Joint Steering Committee, the partnership will facilitate a series of reciprocal events, including trade delegations, buyer-seller meets, and knowledge-sharing sessions. This structure ensures that the collaboration remains practical and outcome-oriented, providing tangible benefits to Indian textile exporters looking to expand their footprint in European markets. As the industry shifts toward higher-value offerings, the integration of Indian manufacturing scale with French-led design intelligence is expected to redefine the perception of Indian textiles on the world stage. By institutionalizing these trade linkages, the BTTF and Première Vision are establishing a framework that not only supports current export growth but also fosters long-term innovation, ensuring that India remains a primary destination for fashion brands seeking craftsmanship, sustainability, and competitive market access.
