President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will not meddle in the Ombudsman’s probe into his cousin, ex-Speaker and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez.
Malacañang gave the assurance on Monday as it stressed that the investigation should be guided by evidence.
“Hindi po makikialam ang Pangulo sa anumang pag-iimbestiga. Sabi nga po natin at ang sabi rin po ng Pangulo, kahit sino po ang maapektuhan nito, kung saan po pupunta ang ebidensiya, sundan na lang po natin,” said Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace press officer Claire Castro in a Palace briefing.
She added: “Kung ano po ang mangyayari sa anumang pag-iimbestiga dito, hindi po makikialam ang Pangulo at tatanggapin po ito.”
Earlier, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said they are close to concluding its probe of the flood control mess involving Romualdez.
The lawmaker’s camp has denied any involvement in the anomaly and said Romualdez is prepared to undergo the legal process should charges be filed against him.
As to allegations of selective justice in the flood control scandal, Castro said justice needs due process and evidence to back up allegations.
She said the justice system requires evidence and due process, not mere accusations.
“Hindi po ganiyan ang hustisyang umiiral dito sa ating bansa – due process… Dito po, ang umiiral ay ebidensiya,” she said.—Politiko.com.ph
