The ministry of external affairs shied away from directly responding to United States President Donald Trump’s “hellhole” repost on social media referring to India and China as spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal just said that they have “seen some reports”.

“We have seen some reports. That’s where I leave it,” Jaiswal said while responding to a question on Trump’s repost.

This comes after Trump posted on his Truth Social on Wednesday (local time) a transcript from a conservative talk show hosted by Michael Savage. In the show, Savage was speaking about US’ birthright citizenship and said that people allegedly arrive in the US late in pregnancy and gain automatic citizenship for their child. He said that such people later bringing in family members from countries including India and China, which he referred to as “some other hellhole on the planet.”

He also argued that immigration trends were reshaping American society and criticized the U.S. Constitution as outdated, saying it is not suited for modern realities such as air travel and the internet.

Iran reacts to Trump’s ‘hellhole’ repost

Coming to India’s and China‘s defence, Iran, which is currently embroiled in a major conflict with the United States, said that both the countries are the “cradles of civilization”.

The Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hyderabad posted on X, “China and India are the cradles of Civilization. In fact, the #hellhole is where its war-criminal president threatened to decimate the civilization in Iran.”

It was referring to one of Trump’s many threats during the war with Iran, in which he warned that “a whole civilisation will die tonight” if Iran did not agree to his terms to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

What else did Trump’s post say?

In the transcript that Trump shared on his Truth Social account, Michael Savage also seen suggesting that the immigrant class lacks loyalty to the United States.

Criticising the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Savage accused it of supporting policies that favour undocumented immigrants and called the union’s lawyers “gangsters with laptops”. He also blamed them for allegedly harming the United States.
