The release of the special commemorative issue of ‘Sanchar Madhyam’, the flagship research journal of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication
The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) released a special commemorative issue of its flagship research journal Sanchar Madhyam on 5 May, marking 200 years of Hindi journalism in India.
The publication celebrates the evolution, milestones, and enduring relevance of Hindi media, bringing together insights from leading academics and media professionals. Designed as a reflective and forward-looking volume, the issue captures the journey of Hindi journalism from its origins with Udant Martand in 1826 to its present role in shaping public discourse. The launch event was attended by Harivansh, chairman of the Rajya Sabha, along with IIMC vice vhancellor Pragya Paliwal Gaur and KK Nirala, joint secretary, ministry of information & broadcasting. The gathering highlighted the significance of the special issue as both a scholarly contribution and a tribute to the legacy of Hindi journalism. Gaur emphasized that the publication not only documents key developments over two centuries but also connects them with contemporary media trends and India’s knowledge traditions.
