India’s Cinematic Landscape Transforms with First Acoustically Transparent LED Screen
CHENNAI, INDIA – August 19, 2026 – The Indian cinematic experience has taken a significant leap forward with the unveiling of the nation’s first acoustically transparent LED cinema screen at the Vettri Theatres multiplex in Chennai. This groundbreaking installation by GDC Technology, a leading provider of digital cinema solutions, promises to redefine immersive viewing for Indian audiences.
The 200-seat Volt auditorium at Vettri Theatres now boasts GDC’s state-of-the-art Tricorne Premium LED screen. This isn’t just any LED display; its unique acoustically transparent design allows for cinema-grade speakers to be precisely positioned directly behind the screen surface. This innovative approach delivers incredibly accurate and localized audio, seamlessly "locking" sound to the on-screen action, creating a truly captivating and lifelike experience for moviegoers.
Powering this ultra-fine 3.3mm pixel pitch screen is GDC’s advanced LED media server, a technology that underpins approximately 70% of the world’s LED cinema displays, attesting to its robust performance and reliability.
Beyond the visually stunning Tricorne Premium screen in Volt, Vettri Theatres has also upgraded its 100-seat Krish auditorium with an audio processor featuring DTS:X for IAB immersive audio. This dual-pronged technological enhancement offers Vettri Theatres the unique ability to provide two distinct and cutting-edge cinema experiences within a single multiplex.
Rakesh Gowthaman, proprietor of Vettri Theatres, expressed his excitement about the long-awaited collaboration. "Since CineAsia in 2014, GDC and I have often discussed the possibilities of a business collaboration between Vettri and GDC," Gowthaman stated. "After more than a decade of conversations, that opportunity finally came together through my interest in an acoustically transparent LED solution. What made this collaboration even more exciting was the opportunity to bring DTS:X for IAB immersive audio to Krish, allowing us to create two completely different technology-driven cinema experiences in the specialty auditoriums.”
This milestone in India follows closely on the heels of another significant achievement for GDC Technology. Just last month, the company was selected to supply its Tricorne Premium technology for the world’s largest cinema LED screen, a colossal 30-meter 8K display slated for the Cinecittà multiplex in Nuremberg, Germany. This underscores GDC’s growing dominance in the global LED cinema market.
Sachin Shetty, Executive Director of EMEA and Country Head at GDC India, highlighted the culmination of years of strategic discussions. "After many years of discussions, the technology is finally ripe for a significant upgrade to Vettri Theatres," Shetty remarked. "The installation of India’s first acoustically transparent Tricorne Premium LED cinema screen at Volt, together with DTS:X for IAB immersive audio at Krish, reflects our shared commitment to delivering innovative cinema experiences.”
The arrival of the acoustically transparent LED screen at Vettri Theatres marks a new era for cinematic innovation in India. As technology continues to push the boundaries of visual and auditory immersion, moviegoers in Chennai and beyond can anticipate an unparalleled experience that brings stories to life with unprecedented clarity and depth. This pioneering move by GDC Technology and Vettri Theatres sets a new benchmark for premium cinema entertainment in the region.
