Bollywood and Tollywood Actress Ananya Raj Passes Away at 35

Mumbai, India – The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of talented actress Ananya Raj, who passed away on July 15, 2026, at the age of 35. Her family shared the tragic news through her social media channels, requesting privacy during this difficult time. Raj, known for her captivating performances in both Bollywood and regional cinema, reportedly passed away peacefully in her sleep.

Born in 1991, Ananya Raj had carved a niche for herself with her versatile acting. She gained recognition for her work in films such as ‘7 Hours To Go’ and ‘Ghost’. Beyond Hindi cinema, she also made a noteworthy impact in regional industries, with her Tollywood debut in the film ‘Thaggede Le’ being a particular highlight.

Just a couple of years prior to her untimely demise, Raj had expressed immense excitement about her foray into the Telugu film industry. Despite the challenges of a new language and cultural differences, she embraced the experience with enthusiasm, eagerly anticipating the audience’s reaction to her work.

In an interview with Hyderabad Times ahead of her Tollywood debut, Ananya Raj had shared her immense pride: “It’s a proud moment for me to be making my Tollywood debut at a time when the whole of Mumbai is talking about this industry. It’s exciting to work in the south.”

However, she candidly spoke about the adjustments required when transitioning from Mumbai’s film sets to Hyderabad’s. "I must admit that the experience on the sets in Hyderabad is extremely different compared to the culture in Mumbai. It doesn’t work here if you speak your mind. I had to learn to be sweet to everyone on the sets,” she revealed. She further added, “Unlike in Mumbai, the people here expect you to be talkative. It took me a while to get used to that, and I had to learn to pretend a bit. Having said that, I’m going to cherish working with the talented filmmakers and technicians in Telugu cinema.”

Discussing her role in ‘Thaggede Le’, Raj emphasized its significance beyond mere glamour. “The film is a suspense thriller so it’s going to be an intense role. My role isn’t just about adding a glamour element; it has a bigger part in the story,” she stated, highlighting her commitment to meaningful characters.

One of her proudest achievements for the film was dubbing for herself, a challenging feat given her unfamiliarity with the Telugu language. “It took a lot of hard work since it’s a new language to me, but I pulled it off. I can’t wait for the audience to watch me on the big screen,” she had enthusiastically shared.

Her family’s statement confirmed that Ananya Raj had been battling both physical and mental discomfort for some time. Despite these struggles, they noted that she "tried her best to live her life like a true queen." The news of her passing has sent shockwaves through the industry, with colleagues and fans alike expressing their condolences and remembering her vibrant spirit and dedication to her craft.

Ananya Raj’s legacy will undoubtedly live on through her memorable performances, serving as a testament to her talent and passion for cinema.
