I cover breaking news for The Columbus Dispatch in addition to covering Columbus’ East and Northeast sides, Bexley, and Whitehall.
Needless to say, covering breaking news while covering these areas and beyond keeps me busy.
My workday usually begins with catching up on emails on any news events that happened in the morning and then listening to the police scanner throughout the late afternoon and into the night for any public safety incidents such as shootings or serious car accidents. If there’s nothing urgent happening, I’m normally doing research and lining up interviews for enterprise stories for one of my coverage areas, or I’m out covering a municipal meeting in my coverage area.
